Blog 2: Friends & Classmates= Sanity

Hey, everybody! Today, I wanted to take a couple of minutes and talk about the importance of supportive and encouraging relationships in an adult learning environment. I'll be honest, sometimes I feel out of control, and like I'm being pulled in 100 separate directions. Every day I play the roles of mother, student, employee, significant other, daughter, friend, and sister. Many times I feel like my attention to one or more of those roles is slacking and needs some attention. That's a lot of hats to wear! Talking and commiserating  with my classmates who are in similar situations really eases my anxiety, and I think that the support and encouragement we bring to each other's lives is IMPERATIVE to our academic success, and emotional well being. That being said, if anyone ever needs a laugh, hug, shoulder, or an ear, I'm around! We're in this together, and I want us ALL to succeed!

  1. What a fantastic post - your voice really came through! One or two things I may add to this post. Share a story, give an example as a way to bring your readers in even more. Also, think about how you can connect this back to your classroom.

  2. Lisa, I really appreciate that you are offering up so much support to all of us, and it is definitely reciprocated. I feel very similar too you in what you said with the many different hats you wear and it is hard to juggle and give 100% to everything you do, because I too feel like sometimes I am not able to give my best to everything but at the end of the day we are all human and trying our very best!

  3. Hi Lisa,

Your post was a very good read. I completely agree with you on the fact that adult do need some encouraging or even reminders that they are doing good. Managing being a student, a full time employee, a mother, sister, etc. is extremely difficult and sometimes all of that piles up and cause a mental breakdown, but you just have to remember that if you are not giving up, then you are amazing and you deserve to succeed in it all. I have faith in you! You are doing an amazing job!

  5. Hey Lisa Girl,
I enjoyed reading your blog it's very meaningful. Since we all are in this together it helps to have others to relate to especially when they also have similar situations to you at home. It reassures you that you're not the only one working, being a mom and a friend. I actually love coming to class on Wednesday's, I'm always so excited to see everyone and mingle. We're practically family now. So how are you doing juggling everything? Have you figured out good methods to manage your time?

    1. Hey, Tasha! I'm still working on time management, but I have found that putting aside specific times of particular days for homework and sticking to my schedule has been helpful! xo
